Members of the project team participated in the 2nd international CEE-LOC CONFERENCE 2024: Local Government Studies in Central and Eastern Europe

 


Members of the project team of the RELI2 project, Dubravka Jurlina Alibegović, PhD, Ivana Rašić, PhD, Tanja Broz, PhD, Željka Kordej-De Villa, PhD and Sunčana Slijepčević, PhD participated in the 2nd CEE-LOC conference "Local Government Studies in Central and Eastern Europe", which was held on 26th and 27th September 2024, at the Institute of Economics, Zagreb. The goal of the two-day conference was to bring together representatives of the academic and research community from Central and Eastern Europe who are interested in local self-government research and to discuss scientific papers that study different dimensions of local self-government, relations with the central level of government and public policies for which local self-governments are responsible in Central and Eastern Europe.

 


The introductory lecture was followed by presentations of scientific papers that took place as part of three parallel sessions on the first day and two parallel sessions on the second day, in which our researchers also participated as moderators. Tanja Broz, PhD, also held a presentation during which she presented a joint paper entitled "The capacities of Croatian cities to perform municipal services", which was written in collaboration with co-authors from the Institute, Ivana Rašić, PhD and Sunčana Slijepčević, PhD.

Ivana Rašić and Željka Kordej-De Villa participated in the 63rd ERSA Congress in Portugal

 


The head of the project team of the project "Challenges facing local and regional development in Croatia" (RELI2), Ivana Rašić, PhD, and member of the project team Željka Kordej-De Villa, PhD, participated in the 63rd ERSA Congress on the island of Terceira in Portugal from 26 to 30 August 2024. As part of the congress, Ivana Rašić, PhD, presented her work on the topic of creative and cultural industries "Spatial patterns of creative and cultural industries (CCI) in Croatia". At the same congress, Željka Kordej-De Villa, PhD, presented her work "Tourism Competitiveness and Environmental Quality: A review" in co-authorship with Andrea Mervar, PhD.

This year's edition of the ERSA Congress entitled "Regional Science Dialogues for Peace and Sustainable Development" focused on sustainable development topics covering regional development, entrepreneurship, regional and urban economy and regional policy topics such as local governance and institutions.

Ivana Rašić, PhD, participated in the applied econometric course
 

RELI2 project manager, Ivana Rašić, PhD, participated in the applied econometric course “Panel Data Econometrics and Causal Analysis“. The course is a part of the planned activities within the “Challenges facing local and regional development in Croatia (RELI2)” project and was held from 10 to 14 June 2024 at the Faculty of Economics & Business (University of Zagreb). One of the lecturers was Professor Robert Sonora from the USA. The skills and insights acquired during the course will be further used during the RELI2 project implementation.

RELI2 project researcher participates in meeting and workshop in Ghent


As part of the activities on the RELI2 project, financed with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026. - NextGenerationEU, our researcher, Dubravka Jurlina Alibegović, PhD participated in a meeting and workshop at the University of Ghent from May 2 to 5, 2024. The topic of the workshop was the research and preparation of the chapter "The promotion of gender equality by municipal councilors in Europe", co-authored by Dubravka Jurlina Alibegović, Sunčana Slijepčević, Eva Marín Hlynsdóttir and Linnéa Henriksson, for the book entitled "Municipal Councilors in Europe: Institutional Context, Profile , Politics, and Government". The book is under contract with the publisher Palgrave and will be part of the Palgrave Studies in Sub-national Governance edition.

 
 

RELI2 project reaches United States of America


We are happy to inform you that our researcher and RELI2 project associate Tanja Broz, PhD participated in the 35th International RAIS Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities in Washington DC, USA on April 4-5, 2024 where she presented the paper „The Efficiency of Public Guarantee System in a Post-Transition Country: A Case of Croatia“.
The conference was organized by the Research Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (RAIS).

Sunčana Slijepčević participates in UCL online training course


Sunčana Slijepčević, PhD, an associate on the project "Challenges facing local and regional development in Croatia" (RELI2), participated from February 12 to 16, 2024, in an online workshop called "Hybrid Winter School: Introduction to Statistics with R", at UCL (University College London) - Centre for Applied Statistics Courses (CASC), as part of the project activities. Dr. Slijepčević familiarized herself with the basic principles of statistics and ways of conducting her own analysis, including significance tests and linear regression techniques. During the training, the free software RStudio was presented, which was used for all practical aspects of the course, which is the user interface for R. The acquired new knowledge will be useful for further work on the scientific research project RELI2.

 

 

On January 1, 2024 The Institute of Economics, Zagreb started with the implementation of the four-year project „Challenges Facing Local and Regional Development in Croatia (RELI2)“,  financed with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026 - NextGenerationEU. The project is part of the four-year Program Agreement that the Institute of Economics, Zagreb signed with the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia. The Program Agreement is a new instrument of public financing of scientific institutions that enables the institutions to independently manage scientific activity in accordance with national strategic goals and based on the results and quality of scientific work. The project lasts until December 31, 2027 and project activities, as well as events, will be published on the web pages of the Institute of Economics, Zagreb.
