Investigating the Impact of the Innovation Union – I3U

On March 1, 2015 The Institute of Economics, Zagreb began with the implementation of the project Investigating the Impact of the Innovation Union (I3U), obtained as part of the Horizon 2020 program together with a consortium of eight European institutions:

The project coordinator was Bart Verspagen from UNU-MERIT.

The Innovation Union had the main objective to strengthen the European innovative potential, and set 13 general objectives and 34 specific (policy) commitments associated to the objectives, and aimed at stimulating innovation. The objective of this project was to deliver a system of assessment for the commitments. The approach started from the evaluation of the state of achievement of the individual commitments, but put crucial emphasis on their effects in the innovation system as a whole, as well as on the economy-wide effects of innovation. The basic idea was to retrace the entire chain of effects of the commitments, from their implementation to their final impact in terms of competitiveness, growth or employment.

EIZ scientists participating in the project were: Dr. Andrea Mervar, Dr. Sonja Radas, Dr. Ivan-Damir Anić, Dr. Edo Rajh and assistant Bruno Škrinjarić. Part of the scientific team were also Dr. Nevenka Čučković from the Institute for Development and International Relations and Dr. Valentina Vučković from the Faculty of Economics and Business.

In November 2015 The Institute of Economics, Zagreb subcontracted the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb (IDIZ) regarding the realization of a specific task related to „Open Access to Research Results and Research Information Services“ (within WP5 „Promoting Openness and Capitalizing on Europe's Creative Potential“).

Due to the specific knowledge needed in the realization of this task, it was undertaken by a team led by professor Dr. Maja Jokić (IDIZ).

The project ran until September 30, 2018.
